OUR PURPOSE
Association for the Welfare of Animals (AWA) is dedicated to the purpose of relieving the suffering of animals by offering the following services:
assistance with emergency vet bills for people and pets in dire need
dog houses to families who have fallen on hard times (available as resources allow)
donations of pet food to the Cleveland County Animal Shelter
OUR HISTORY
Association for the Welfare of Animals (AWA) was born in 1999. A very small group of people who were interested in bringing relief to animals by developing and implementing a program for spay/neuter assistance gathered around a kitchen table to begin the task. By December 2000 we had secured our non-profit status, and so began our work. Several of the founders had already spent many of the previous years advocating for animals as members and directors of another animal welfare organization (no longer in operation), and each of them is still serving AWA!
All of our work is done by volunteers. AWA has NO employees, NO buildings, and NO facilities. With such low overhead, we can report that over 85% of our income is SPENT ON ANIMALS! Approximately 15% pays for printing supplies, phones, post office box, and insurance. Although costs are rising for everything, it is our goal to keep as much money as possible to spend directly on the animals.
As you explore our site, we hope you not only find the help you are seeking, but also that you will consider the ways you may be able to help an animal in need! If questions arise and you'd like to talk, please contact us.
